Current Volunteers Required

Volunteers are urgently needed at the Council.  

We welcome interested and committed people who wish to invest their time and efforts in contributing to the greater good of the community and at the same time gain new skills and experience.

Our Approach

We take on a strength based or asset based approach in working with our volunteers. This approach recognises that each one of us has gifts and talents and we can make a contribution if given the opportunity. It is from this premise that we engage our volunteers, in that we link them to a range of existing or future Council projects taking into account their skills and experience.

Volunteering Opportunities

We welcome interested people who wish to volunteer in a variety of roles and capacities. Some of the projects we have at present that are run by volunteers are:

·    Literacy Tutoring for primary school students
·    Homework Tutoring
·    English language Tutoring
·    Arabic Language Tutoring
·    Home visits and respite care to families
·    Home visits to older people
·    Food Aid Project
·    General clerical duties

What do we require from our volunteers

Before commencing our volunteers would need to fulfil the following requirements:

·    Complete an application form
·    Attend an interview before commencing duties
·    Provide two referees
·    Provide a copy of driver’s license
·    Provide a current criminal record clearance which can be obtained from the local police station
·    A positive attitude to community service and an understanding of the special needs of clients (the people we assist)
·    Willingness to attend meetings and training sessions and attend compulsory Occupational Health and Safety sessions
·    A willingness to adhere to Council’s policies for volunteers
·    Adhere to client privacy and confidentiality
·    Flexibility towards service delivery
·    A non judgmental attitude towards the clients and their circumstances
