Arab Council Australia (ACA) strongly rejects recent calls by Pauline Hanson for a “monocultural Australia.” This rhetoric ignores our nation’s history and threatens the social cohesion that defines modern Australia.
Australia has never been monocultural. From First Nations custodianship to generations of migrants, our identity is inherently diverse. Calls for monoculturalism echo the discredited White Australia Policy and are incompatible with the values of contemporary Australian society.
Multiculturalism is central to Australia’s success, strengthening our economy and enriching our culture. Arab Australians contribute every day as professionals, healthcare workers, educators, and business owners. ACA firmly upholds inclusion, respect, and equal opportunity for all, regardless of background or faith.
We stand with the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA), which has noted that such narratives risk dividing communities and eroding public trust. At a time when unity matters most, public discourse must bring people together, not pull them apart.
ACA affirms that:

• True social cohesion is built through inclusion, not exclusion.
