A Warm Welcome: Sawa Buddy Program Hosts Successful Meet and Greet

On Saturday, 30 November 2024, Arab Council Australia proudly hosted the first meet and greet session of the Sawa Buddy Program. The event brought together over 70 participants, including 25 families newly arrived from Palestine and 20 dedicated volunteers.
The Sawa Buddy Program, Funded by Community and Cohesion Support Program aims to support newly arrived Palestinians, pairing volunteers with families to help them navigate their new lives in Australia. By offering practical guidance and fostering meaningful friendships Council hopes the program will ease the transition for families by creating a network of care and connection.
The meet and greet session provided a warm and welcoming space for participants to connect, share stories, and build bonds. Volunteers and families were introduced through interactive activities, discussions, and an atmosphere of mutual support and understanding.
“This program is all about building relationships and creating lasting community ties,” said Sawa Program Coordinator Abir Moukahal. “It is a joy to see the connection in the room today." power of our collective effort.
The Sawa Buddy Program continues to grow, offering opportunities for more volunteers to join and support newly arrived Palestinians.
